We strive to make the best environment for our animals. They come first. We hire various positions for different areas of animal care. Below you will find descriptions of each position and the rules that go along with them.
PRIMATE CARE
Our primates and other small animals are considered in the small animal internship. There are approximately 300 animals and 61 species in this area. This is the highest priority area of the park for disinfections and it is done daily along with proper zoo formulated foods and strict diets .Enrichment is the most important part of this area as required by the USDA and we here at the park have a great plan in effect which gives the animals of this area something new every day.
BIG CAT INTERNSHIP
This is one the most dangerous position of the park, and we will not employ or take volunteers for this area who can not follow rules and conduct themselves in the highest manner of professionalism possible. Some of these cats have been taken out of the worst of the worst environments possible. In this area, you will be in care for over 165 big cats which requires a lot of time, skill and patience. All of our cats are fed a strict diet made up by our vet of fresh raw meat and the best dry vitamins money can buy. All big cats are fed daily (in the morning) and are fasted one day per week. On the fasting day, they receive bones to chew on. Enrichment for the big cats are changed weekly.
- NO ONE Is allowed to enter a cage with any of the big cats. Every cage is equipped with a lock out area so there is never a reason for the animal to be stressed or you put in danger.
- NEVER lock or unlock cages while we are training you! While cleaning the cage, all rules apply. How clean the cages are to be applies to every animal on this park. The cages are to be "spotless." During the warm months of the year in Oklahoma, or anytime it is over 75 degrees, we change water for our cats and bears 5 times during light hours one time after dark (under 75 degrees the water is changed 3 times per day).
- You will Learn You will work in a team-environment under a supervisor in a steady-paced work program. You will work with a large selection of animals. You will learn how to give them their natural enrichment. You will be able to work with the most intelligent animals there are. You will be expected to make them feel as natural as possibleYou will see the real tragedy of what private ownership has done to the animals we receive, and why some of the animals we have will never fully recover.
WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY VIOLATIONS OF ANIMAL CARE OR ANYONE TEASING, TORMENTING, OR CAUSING NEGLECT TO ANY ANIMAL.
